People often think that running clubs are only for 'proper' runners & that they would never be able to participate in the sport at that level. However at Royton Road Runners we are keen to help & encourage people of all abilities to enjoy running. As part of our commitment to nurturing new runners we are pleased to support an exciting new venture in the Saddleworth village of Greenfield.

In January 2011, long-standing RRR member & physiotherapist Colin Green started an Absolute Beginners Group. The training was basded on a 10-week programme that progressed from running/walking one mile to completing a 5K (3 mile) parkrun in Alexandra Park. This very supportive group progressed to competing in the Great Manchester 10K run in May 2011. For more information about this group & their achievements in the 10K race, click here.

Following this success, Greenfield Greyhounds is now approved by Run England, with three running groups who meet every Tuesday evening at Greenfield Conservative Club. There is a £1 fee for these sessions - any surplus is donated to charities of the group's choice.

Greenfield Greyhounds is proud to be formally linked to Royton Road Runners & offer a supportive introduction to running, with several members now having progressed to training with the main RRR groups on Monday & Thursday nights. It is hoped that runners from Greenfield & Royton groups will continue to support each other on training nights.
