2019 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - RACE LIST

STOP PRESS!

The RRR Committee has been made aware that the 'Joyce Ashworth & Mike Allingan Memorial 5K Cowm Race' on Wednesday 18th September 2019, due to be Race 15 in this year's Club Championship, has unfortunately been cancelled. The cancellation is due to race organiser Andy O’Sullivan being ill & we obviously wish him the very best on his recovery.

Many thanks for all the suggestions for alternative races. After considering all the options, the committee has agreed on a solution which we think is the fairest to everyone - we will use Oldham parkrun in September as the replacement event. For every RRR who takes part on a Saturday morning we will take the best time achieved during the month & calculate club championship points accordingly - similar to the approach we've used with the Littleborough & Hollingworth Lake 5K series in recent years.

The main advantage of this approach is that it gives everyone 4 separate Saturdays during September to run. Those who can take part more than once will have the advantage of having their best time count - possibly in the most favourable conditions - but even if you can only get to Alexandra Park once, you'll still be included in the points tables.

Please note that, unlike other club races, there will be no requirement to run in a club vest. Results will only be counted if your name appears in the official parkrun results - i.e. you must have your parkrun barcode scanned on the day. If there are any members who have not yet registered for parkrun, you can do so here.

If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Please find below the list of events in the 2019 club championship, as agreed by the RRR Committee, with links to race websites & entry forms for all remaining races.

Points are awarded for each race according to the finishing order (on chip times where used), with each individual's BEST 7 SCORES to count. Click here to see the full set of rules & regulations.

AS AN AFFILIATED CLUB WE ABIDE BY ENGLAND ATHLETICS RULES.
RRR MEMBERS MUST RUN IN A CLUB VEST WHEN ENTERED IN A RACE AS A ROYTON ROAD RUNNER (OR IN THEIR 1ST CLAIM COLOURS IF NOT RRR).

Many thanks to all members who took the time to vote in the survey back in August about the format of the Club Championship & more recently submitted a list of preferred races. As a result of your feedback we are making a significant change for 2019 - the series still consists of 17 races but it is now BEST 7 POINTS SCORES to count (rather than best 9). We hope that this will open up the competition to those who have struggled in the past to complete 9 races due to work & family commitments, whilst still supporting many local events & maintaining a full calendar for those who like to plan their year around our club races.

9 of the 10 most popular club races from 2018 (based on submissions received) have been retained - the exception being the Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon, which we decided to exclude for next year because it clashes with the final cross-country race of the season. The alternative race we've chosen in February, at Carsington Water in Derbyshire, is a week later & comes highly recommended ("undulating, traffic-free trails...stunning views of the Lake & surrounding Peak District countryside...ideal as part of a Spring marathon training schedule..."). There's also a pub less than a mile from Race HQ which welcomes coach parties...

There are also returns for the Oldham 10K (although with a different route, now organised by Muir's Miles), Mossley 10K & Wilmslow Half Marathon. Wilmslow has always been a popular event amongst RRRs, particularly those preparing for an April marathon, but this is the 1st time for several years that it has not clashed/been too close to either the Dentdale Run or Greater Manchester Marathon.

As always, in addition to taking into account your suggestions we have considered cost of entry & distance to travel, whilst also attempting to allow a reasonable gap between events - particularly the longer races. Whilst we know that we can never please everybody, we hope that all members will find enough options here to complete at least 7 races & hopefully more!
