2019 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - RACE LIST
The RRR Committee has been made aware that the 'Joyce Ashworth & Mike Allingan Memorial 5K Cowm Race' on Wednesday 18th September 2019, due to be Race 15 in this year's Club Championship, has unfortunately been cancelled. The cancellation is due to race organiser Andy O’Sullivan being ill & we obviously wish him the very best on his recovery.
Points are awarded for each race according to the finishing order (on chip times where used), with each individual's BEST 7 SCORES to count. Click here to see the full set of rules & regulations.
Many thanks to all members who took the time to vote in the survey back in August about the format of the Club Championship & more recently submitted a list of preferred races. As a result of your feedback we are making a significant change for 2019 - the series still consists of 17 races but it is now BEST 7 POINTS SCORES to count (rather than best 9). We hope that this will open up the competition to those who have struggled in the past to complete 9 races due to work & family commitments, whilst still supporting many local events & maintaining a full calendar for those who like to plan their year around our club races.
9 of the 10 most popular club races from 2018 (based on submissions received) have been retained - the exception being the Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon, which we decided to exclude for next year because it clashes with the final cross-country race of the season. The alternative race we've chosen in February, at Carsington Water in Derbyshire, is a week later & comes highly recommended ("undulating, traffic-free trails...stunning views
of the Lake & surrounding Peak District countryside...ideal as part of a Spring marathon training schedule..."). There's also a pub less than a mile from Race HQ which welcomes coach parties...
There are also returns for the Oldham 10K (although with a different route, now organised by Muir's Miles), Mossley 10K & Wilmslow Half Marathon. Wilmslow has always been a popular event amongst RRRs, particularly those preparing for an April marathon, but this is the 1st time for several years that it has not clashed/been too close to either the Dentdale Run or Greater Manchester Marathon.
As always, in addition to taking into account your suggestions we have considered cost of entry & distance to travel, whilst also attempting to allow a reasonable gap between events - particularly the longer races. Whilst we know that we can never please everybody, we hope that all members will find enough options here to complete at least 7 races & hopefully more!
