Royton Road Runners

Royton Trail Multi-Terrain Race

The inaugural 5.5 mile Royton Trail race was held on 18th July 2007. 72 runners took part, with David Lockett of Salford Harriers finishing first and setting the first 'course record' of 31mins 53secs.

Race numbers increased to 117 in 2008, 156 in 2009 & 186 on 14th July 2010. Ian Grime (Newham & Essex Beagles) won all three races, smashing the course record in 2009 with a time of 30:52. With a slight change to the course in 2010 Ian ran 29:34, an amazing time for this tough, undulating multi-terrain race that left him almost two minutes ahead of the field.

Alison Sedman (Belle Vue Racers) also defended her ladies title in 2010 with a time of 37:10, following victories for Lisa Heyes (Horwich RMI Harriers) & Jacqui Dews (Holmfirth Harriers) in 2007 & 2008 respectively.

Team prizes were introduced for this first time in 2010, with Middleton Harriers topping the men's list & Royton Road Runners winning the ladies competition.

Many positive comments were once again heard as runners crowded into the Tandle Hill Tavern to escape the rain after the race. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year - the fifth Royton Trail race will take place on Wednesday 13th July 2011.
