Royton Road Runners

Marilyn Guest

BIRTHDAY: 26th June

FIRST CLAIM CLUB: Royton Road Runners.

FAVOURITE RACE: Saddleworth 6 & Littleborough 5K.

TOUGHEST RACE: The 'Otter 40 Miler' - off road, up Mam Tor & Peveril, along old railway lines & a ravine at 37 miles.

FAVOURITE TRAINING RUN: Along the canal & cross-country - loved being off the road after Winter.

MOST MEMORABLE/PROUDEST RUNNING MOMENT: London Marathon in 1994 - it had been really cold & I must be the only person to finish a marathon complaining of sore hands, I'd been holding the water bottle that tightly! Also finishing any race - always loved them to be over.

FUNNIEST/MOST EMBARRASSING RUNNING MOMENT: Far too many to mention, but including many double meanings, e.g. "Trevor gave me a good time", Also four in a bed & I was the only female (Land's End to John O'Groats 1998). I'm sure there will be more in the future.

FAVOURITE PRE-RACE MEAL: Pre-race I was too nervous to eat.

PRE-RACE SUPERSTITIONS: None - apart from wondering "What am I doing here? & "I must be mad!".

RUNNING AMBITIONS: None now - they've all disintegrated along with the cartilage in my knees. I'll still keep walking for as long as I can & perform key-holding duties at races I attend. I'll continue as Secretary sorting race entry forms & look into our club gaining Clubmark status.

IF YOU WEREN'T A RUNNER, WHAT WOULD YOU BE? As unfit as some of my neighbours, blobbing around on the settee & even fatter than I am now.

TELL US SOMETHING NOBODY IN THE CLUB KNOWS ABOUT YOU: Some know that I had major heart surgery 36 years ago - "hole in the heart". Also, think I'm addicted to the 'RightMove' website!!! I love nosying around the homes for sale around the country/world. There are two other majopr secrets, but they may have to go to the grave with me!!!
